Female councillors came from across Gippsland to celebrate what has been achieved throughout the year.

Cr Dowman said one of the aims of the Local Government Women’s Association was to encourage women to participate in local government.

"As a group we meet quite regularly throughout the year," explained Cr Dowman.

"It is an opportunity to support each other, share experiences and give encouragement.

"With Mayoral elections occurring across the state at the moment, at this meeting there was an extensive discussion on how to assist councillors in the process of selecting their Mayor and Deputy Mayor," continued Cr Dowman.

"We also discussed ways to assist those who are elected to leadership positions, so they can fulfil their responsibilities and meet the expectations of other councillors and the community.

"We debated the different ways women could make an impact on Climate Change and are looking to put together a position statement on carbon reduction for each of the Gippsland councils to consider."

Cr Dore Daly said the evening was a great success with councillors sharing stories of their year, discussing their various roles on council.

"It’s very exciting to meet other female councillors and Mayors," said Cr Dore Daly.

"They are so inspiring and full of valuable information. It is a fantastic opportunity to get together with other women who care for their communities.

"It’s also an opportunity to show off our region and we did this by presenting each councillor with a show bag of local produce and souvenirs," continued Cr Dore Daly.
