Send messages of support to Hazelwood workers and the community

Latrobe City Council will be activating the Tarwin Street Pop Up Park on Friday 31 March 2017 for community members to gather and reflect upon the closure of the Hazelwood Power Station.

Mayor Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan said the activation would be a simple presence from Council providing a space for community members to gather and reflect upon the importance of Hazelwood in the history of our community.

"We’ll have some books there – should community choose to they can write messages of support to the workers, to the community," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"We felt that it was important for people to have an opportunity to express their thoughts in a generous way, I’ve spoken to many community members who want to be able to capture their thoughts and feelings.

"Books will be at Tarwin Street Pop Up Park on Friday from 11am to 2pm. We will then look to circulate them through the municipality over the coming weeks.

"We’ll also provide an online version for members of the community who wish to capture their thoughts and reflections in that way."

"The message books will be available to the community for four weeks, at the end of which they will be compiled and the messages shared with the workers and community.

"Our hope is that we’ll be able to then pass these on to the PowerWorks Committee and that these will be held as part of their collection."

Message books will be available at the Tarwin Street Pop Up Park, Commercial Road, Morwell from 11am to 2pm. They will then be placed at the Traralgon Service Centre and Library for the week commencing the 3 April 2017 before moving to other facilities in the municipality.
