Permanent Water Saving Rules – Here To Stay

Gippsland Water continues to recognise community efforts to conserve water since the release of the Permanent Water Saving Rules on December 7 last year.

By Gippsland Water - 2nd February 2006 - Back to News

The new rules have been developed in response to the State Government’s ‘Our Water, Our Future’ Action Plan and reflect Gippsland Water’s proactive approach to water conservation.

The Permanent Water Saving Rules are here to stay. These rules differ from water restrictions, which are in place only in times of drought or water shortages.

Gippsland Water Public Affairs Manager Rebecca McGuigan said, "The new rules are part of Gippsland Water’s Permanent Water Saving Plan (PWSP) and reinforce water saving attitudes developed by our customers during recent low-rainfall years. The Plan was developed in cooperation with stakeholders and feedback from community information sessions."

The Permanent Water Saving Rules include requirements such as:

• Use manual or automatic watering services between 8pm and 10am each day;

• Use only trigger nozzles on hoses;

• Do not hose paved areas; and

• Lodge an application with Gippsland Water before filling pools or dams over 2,000 litres.

The Permanent Water Saving Rules also include various other requirements for residential and commercial use of water, including the operation of watering systems for sportsgrounds.

Rebecca McGuigan said that "The response from Gippsland Water’s customers to these rules has been excellent. We are confident that our customers will continue to use water in accordance with the Permanent Water Saving Rules. "
