A Night With Our StarsBass Coast will be on the big screen at a sparkling premiere night of short films about some of our community’s quiet achievers.
By Bass Coast - 8th February 2012 - Back to News A Night With Our Stars features nine mini-documentaries about local residents produced by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), and will be screened free in Wonthaggi.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Director of Community and Economic Development, Steven Piasente, said the nine short films showcase Bass Coast and the remarkable people who live here.
"This will be a night of great entertainment. The screening is the first time that the films will be shown in a cinema and in true premiere style, members of the cast and VIPs from ACMI will attend," said Mr Piasente.
The mini-documentaries were made here in December and are a part of ACMI’s regional filming program, which aims to capture local identity. Two crews from ACMI filmed at several locations and interviewed a range of local community members to document their stories.
"ACMI filmed at places including Phillip Island, Inverloch and Waterline areas. They filmed groups such as Swell Mamas, Youth Settlement Soccer Group, Island Surf School and Bass Valley Community Centre," continued Mr Piasente.
"These short documentaries capture history and celebrate local stories in a way that makes it accessible to a broader audience. ACMI’s regional filming program has been successful because they involve local residents in telling their own stories.
"The mini-documentaries will be added to ACMI’s archive collection as a permanent record of life in our regional area and will show a unique part of Australia," said Mr Piasente.
The films will be screened at 7.00pm on Friday, 2 March at the Wonthaggi Union Arts Centre. Although this is a free screening, seats are limited and bookings are essential. To make a booking contact Lisa Pettinella on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or email CommunityPlanningTeam@basscoast.vic.gov.au by Wednesday, 15 February 2012.
The films will also be viewable on the ACMI website a few weeks after the screening at www.acmi.net.au
