Shire Seizes Boat Trailers, Warns Owners And Businesses

East Gippsland Shire has seized abandoned boat trailers and warned owners and marine businesses in Paynesville not to clutter the large open public land area adjacent to the Squatters Row shoreline.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 16th January 2006 - Back to News

Shire Group Manager Infrastructure Chris Waites said the area had recently taken on the appearance of a junkyard.

"We have seen the unauthorised dumping of road metal as well as old motor vehicles and unregistered boat trailers being left there, " he said.

"Apart from creating an unsightly appearance in a prominent area of the town, the practice creates dangers for the public."

Mr Waites said that about a month ago the Shire seized two abandoned and unregistered trailers and no one had come forward to claim them.

"We have also been concerned about large unregistered commercial boat trailers being left opposite business premises," he said.

"We have advised those responsible that the practice is not acceptable and that the trailers will be seized if it continues."

Mr Waites said that a number of complaints about the trailers had been made to the Shire.
