Fund Welcomes $50,000 BoostEsso and BHP Billiton have donated $50,000 to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) to provide assistance to families affected by the recent devastating floods across Gippsland. By Gippsland Water - 6th September 2007 - Back to News Esso and BHP Billiton’s contribution was the first major corporate donation to the flood appeal when it was announced earlier this year.
"This year Esso and BHP Billiton have demonstrated outstanding generosity and leadership by contributing a total of $90,000 to both the Gippsland fire and flood appeals," fund President John Mitchell said.
"This $50,000 donation will greatly assist the fund to help people hit hard by the floods to recover and rebuild their lives.
"There were more than 1,000 farms and households in total that were impacted by the floods, and an enormous effort is required to assist the community to recover from what is a disastrous setback," he said.
The fund, which is managed by a committee of volunteers, is still encouraging Gippsland and Victorian communities and businesses to support those who have flood damaged homes, farms, stock and belongings by making a much-needed donation to the flood appeal.
"Esso and BHP Billiton are pleased to provide such a worthwhile contribution to support the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund flood recovery efforts", Esso Longford Plants Manager Mike Kunzig said.
Donations can be made via the post or at any branch of the National Australia Bank in Australia. Donation cheques can also be posted to PO Box 508, Traralgon, 3844.
