New emergency markers installed across Wellington Shire to improve safety and emergency response in remote areasNew emergency markers at key Wellington sites link directly to Triple Zero, helping emergency services locate people faster in remote areas. By news@gippsland - 4th July 2025 - Back to News Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Scott Rossetti visited Blores Hill Mountain Bike Track yesterday alongside representatives from CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, VIC SES, and Parks Victoria to view one of the new markers and acknowledge the collaborative effort behind the project.

These codes provide GPS coordinates, road access information and navigational data, helping emergency services respond more quickly and accurately in remote or difficult-to-describe areas. The new markers have been installed at high-use public sites across Wellington, including: - Blores Hill Mountain Bike Track

- McFarlane's Saddle
- Arbuckle Junction
- Blue Pools
- Cheyne's Bridge
- Two Mile Creek
- Lake Glenmaggie
- Primrose Gap
Mayor Rossetti said the initiative is a vital investment in community safety. "When an emergency happens in a hard-to-find location, every second counts. These Emergency Markers give people a simple way to tell emergency services exactly where they are saving valuable time and potentially lives." Emergency markers installedCr Rossetti added, "Wellington Shire is known for its outdoor beauty, but with that comes the challenge of accessing remote areas quickly during emergencies. These markers help overcome that challenge. This project shows the value of strong partnerships between Council and emergency services. It's a practical, effective outcome that helps keep our community and visitors safer," he said. The project was made possible through funding from Emergency Recovery Victoria's Long Term Recovery Program and was delivered through the Wellington Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee and a dedicated multi-agency working group. If an emergency occurs, call Triple Zero (000) and provide the code displayed on the marker to ensure emergency services reach you as quickly as possible.
