New Ambulance Station’s Still on Hold
Progress inquiries for Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe has again in Parliament questioned the Minister for Ambulance Services about the progress of the promised new Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations.
"Whilst the Minister had previously confirmed that the Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations were in the design and planning phase, there is still no date in sight about when we will see these highly necessary builds actually commence", Mr Northe said.
"I asked questions in Parliament over 90 days ago and the Minister has failed to respond – and failed to respond in the required 30 days!" You can read Mr Northe’s advocacy here
This is a long-running issue to replace local ambulance stations that are desperately in need of modernising, and it’s so disappointing that dedicated local paramedics have been left out in the cold in this regard.
During the 2018 election campaign, a new Morwell ambulance branch was committed to by the Government, and at the time, the Minister was quoted as saying;
"The Andrews Labor government is building a cutting-edge ambulance station for Morwell paramedics to ensure they have the safe, modern facilities they deserve – and patients get faster care when they need it," (Ambulance Services Minister Jill Hennessy).
"There was even a sign erected on a site in English Street Morwell, committing to opening a brand new station in late-2019!" LVE article October 22 2018
"But here we are in 2020 and this station is supposedly still in the planning phase – I mean, how ridiculous", Mr Northe exclaimed.
"I’ve called upon the Minister to explain to the Morwell community what the hold-up is and to explain once and for all when we can expect to see these ambulance stations built as was promised", Mr Northe concluded.
