The seminar, called How to protect your community group from public liability claims - minimising risk for Community, Education and Non-Profit Groups has been organised by The Municipal Association of Victoria, www.ourcommunity.com.au and SchoolsTV. This broadcast has been funded through the Community Support Fund.
This is an opportunity for our local community groups to see how they can implement practices that can assist them in ensuring that they operate safely and protect their members, visitors and assets. It is also a chance to ensure that your organisation is doing everything it can to ensure that its public liability costs are contained.
Community groups do so much to build their local communities and we need to make sure that in this environment of high insurance costs that our local community groups are aware and act in every way possible to remain safe. The seminars provide easy-to-use and practical advice together with real life examples of identifying and evaluating risks that can be effectively implemented by even the smallest group. We want groups to continue to provide the services that are so essential for our local community and this is another way that we can provide to make them sustainable in the long term.
The CEO of www.ourcommunity.com.au, Dr Rhonda Galbally AO, said "we have been assisting the Municipal Association and the State Government to develop resources and training materials to help them manage risk and every community group in Victoria can access these resources free of charge. These are available at the Community Insurance Centre of our website (www.ourcommunity.com.au) and urge strong support to these local seminars so we ensure that local festivals and groups don’t disappear."
The free seminar, at 7.30pm on October 16 will be held at Wonthaggi Secondary College’s McBride Campus. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 1300 137475.
