East Gippsland Is A FavouriteEast Gippslanders obviously love their part of Victoria. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 20th July 2004 - Back to News Local residents have been nominating quite a few of our magnificent attractions – including Cape Conran beach, Metung, Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale township – in the Building Commission’s ‘My Favourite Place’ competition.
East Gippsland Mayor Harvey Bates said he was delighted to hear these places had been nominated in the competition, which is part of celebrations for the Year of the Built Environment 2004.
Cr Bates said the aims of the Year were to encourage people to celebrate and understand their Built Environment and the difference it made to health, lifestyle and the natural environment.
Cr Bates said he was sure even more East Gippsland places could be nominated in the statewide competition.
"It would be terrific if something in our shire was named as Victoria’s favourite," Cr Bates said.
Towns, buildings, parks, gardens and roads can all be nominated.
Victoria’s favourite place will be selected on local, regional and state levels and winners will be announced on 1 August.
