Access for all Abilities funding available

Wellington Shire is encouraging eligible local community and not-for-profit groups to apply for funding under the 2004 Access for all Abilities program, for projects geared at making sports and recreation more accessible to those with a disability.

By Wellington Shire Council - 17th August 2004 - Back to News

The program is designed to support projects that take an innovative and sustainable approach to making the provision of sport and recreation more inclusive.

Funding is available in the following categories:

  • Planning preparing for future needs through comprehensive information gathering, consultation, partnership development, governance and management arrangements;

  • Strengthening Communities to improve skills in the community, strengthen community organisations, and build partnerships and networks;

  • Building Community Infrastructure - to improve places where communities meet and interact. Applications may focus on building or upgrading community centres, or on improving general infrastructure - provided that it relates to community strengthening objectives.

Copies of the guidelines and application forms are available from the Department for Victorian Communities website at www.dvc.vic.gov.au/grants or by telephoning its Gippsland Office on (03) 5174 7308.

The deadline for applications is 10 September 2004 and successful projects will be announced later in the year.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "This council is committed to projects that will build a stronger, more inclusive Wellington community. The Access for all Abilities initiative assists people of all abilities to be healthier and to get more out of life, while building their personal self-esteem and exploring their potential."

More information is available by telephoning Wellington’s Recreation Development Officer Michael Rowell on 1300 366 244.
