A steering committee of key government agencies including the Department of Planning and Community Development, Department of Transport, Vic Track, Vic Roads, V/Line and Regional Development Victoria have been working in partnership with Latrobe City Council and the community to develop the Master Plan.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that the Traralgon Station Precinct Master Plan aimed to provide a conceptual plan to guide future development of land adjacent to the Traralgon train station.

"Following community consultation last year Latrobe City Council has been working with stakeholders and the community to address issues raised in the written submissions we received. The result is a master plan that provides the community with a genuine transport interchange with plans to upgrade facilities for both rail and bus commuters.

"A reconfigured station building with highly visible entrances will mark the station as the gateway to Traralgon and provide for anticipated growth in rail patronage in the future. The master plan offers a bus interchange with potential for eight bus bays and improved shade, shelter, seating, lighting and landscaping.

"Pedestrian access through and beyond the precinct and community safety have been key considerations in the development of the master plan. Fundamental to improved connectivity is the opportunity to upgrade the rail overpass identified in the master plan by incorporating stairs and a lift on both sides of the railway line as well as improved lighting," Cr White explained.

Gunyah Ward Councillor, Ed Vermeulen, added that the master plan also included the construction of a new car park on the southern side of the rail line catering for 200 car spaces.

"There is an increase in excess of 100 car parking spaces for the precinct. Adoption of the master plan now puts Council in a strong position to attract government funding opportunities which is a positive position for Council to be in," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
