On Friday, 20 April, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, KISBOz, cultural sports expo at the Phillip Island Leisure Centre, will highlight the diverse community in Bass Coast.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said Council was proud to support this great initiative organised by young people in the community.

"The name KISBOz reflects the different nationalities involved in organising the day, which includes Indigenous, Karen, Sudanese, Brazilian and other Australians.

"It is a chance for young people to get together and share some fun and cultural food, as well as try sports like cane ball and indigenous sports," said Mr Piasente.

"It is wonderful that local Olympian, Belinda Snell, is part of the event. Belinda will share her experiences playing basketball in other countries.

"As one of the area’s most successful athletes, I am sure she will be able to give some great insights into being an elite althete, as well as sharing some success stories including her Olympic silver medals, Commonwealth Games gold and WNBA, WNBL and Euroleague championships.

"Belinda has played for teams in America, Italy, France, Russia and Spain and is currently working towards representing Australia at the London Olympics."

To help young people get to the event, a bus will be leaving from the Vline bus stop in Biggs Drive, Wonthaggi (next to Woolworths) at 4.30pm returning at 9.00pm. A bus will also be running from the Corinella District Community Centre. There will be limited places on these buses so young people are encouraged to register to reserve their spot.

For more information or to register, ring Tony Cornish, Community Facilitator, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278). The group organising KISBOz has been supported by Bass Coast Shire Council, Gippsport and South Coast Primary Care Partnership with funding support from the Victorian Government, provided by the Department of Human Services, Office for Youth.
