Community Invited To Participate In Traralgon Growth Areas Review Workshops

A series of community consultation workshops, being held as part of the Traralgon Growth Areas Review, are being held in September to enable the community to have their say on future urban development in Traralgon and surrounding areas.

By Latrobe City Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the aim of the Traralgon Growth Areas Review is to develop a strategy for the future of urban development growth in Traralgon, the Morwell-Traralgon Corridor, and environs up to the year 2050.

"The Latrobe Valley population is continuing to grow. In addition to the land identified in the recent review of the Traralgon Structure Plan, we need to ensure that there is further land set aside to accommodate longer term urban housing, retail, industrial and employment requirements to meet anticipated demand," Cr Price said.

"The community consultation workshops, being held as part of the review will be a great opportunity for the local community to identify any major concerns surrounding urban development."

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said Traralgon is estimated to have around four years left of residential land supply within existing residential zoned areas; and the adopted Traralgon Structure Plan is estimated to provide for around 12-15 years of residential land.

"As such it is important that Latrobe City Council and Latrobe City residents establish all options for future urban development growth.

"This is the community’s chance to offer solutions, ideas and concerns surrounding the increasing population growth of the area, so that council can progress a solution for the future," Mr Buckley said.

"The feedback provided from these consultation workshops will guide the outcome of the review, which when finalised will be presented to council for consideration," Mr Buckley added.

Workshops will be held on Thursday 17 September 2009 at the Quality Inn Latrobe Convention Centre, 5601 Princes Highway, Traralgon, between 10am–1pm and 5pm-8pm; or alternatively on Saturday 19 September 2009 at Latrobe City Council’s Traralgon Service Centre, Macfarlane Burnet Room between 10am–1pm.

Those interested in participating in the workshop or finding out more about the Traralgon Growth Areas Review are asked to contact Joanne Glendenning, strategic planning technical officer at Latrobe City Council, on 1300 367 700.
