Latrobe City reminds war veterans of parking concessions

Latrobe City Council has reminded local war veterans holding a Gold Card that they are now able to apply for a permit to park for twice the displayed limit in Council controlled parking areas.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the permits are one way of recognising the service that war veterans have provided to the community.

"By issuing permits to extend parking times, we are taking a small step towards recognising the valuable contribution made by these veterans. It is a small concession to those who served Australia, but one that we hope will prove to be useful for our local veterans," Cr White said.

Councillor Bruce Lougheed, said that veterans holding a TPI/EDA Gold Card from the Department of Veterans Affairs were eligible to apply for the special permit.

"By having this permit displayed, veterans will be able to park for twice the allotted time in Council controlled parking areas. This includes on and off street parking in the Moe, Morwell and Traralgon central business districts. The permit only applies within Latrobe City though," Cr Lougheed explained.

"Many of our veterans may be senior citizens and having that extra time does make a difference when going out shopping or for appointments. Council felt that this was an appropriate way of giving our veterans some tangible acknowledgement for their services during conflict," Cr Lougheed said.

"The permits are a small token of our appreciation for their past efforts," Cr Lougheed concluded.

Application forms for the Concessional Parking Permits are available at all Citizen Service Centres, local RSL sub-branches or by mail. Applications can be lodged at Citizen Service Centres in Moe, Morwell or Traralgon or by mail.
