An exhibition by Mainstreet Artwork, created by adults with a disability, will also be on display in the foyer. Latrobe’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said the combination of the film screening and art exhibition encourages patrons to recognise and celebrate ‘International Day of People with a Disability’. "The claymation movie ‘Mary and Max’ was written and directed by Australian Adam Elliot who won an Academy Award with another claymation short film ‘Harvie Krumpet’. The film explores the relationship, through a series of letters, between a young, lonely Australian girl and an overweight Jewish man in New York, living with Aspergers Syndrome. Whilst it deals with some mature themes, there is also much humour in the movie. "The local community and schools are invited to take up this fabulous opportunity to see the feature film and look through the exhibition. School screenings take place at 9.30am and 1pm and there will be a community viewing at 8pm," Ms Roberts said. Jillaine Hurrell from Mainstreet Artwork said the group is made up of adults with a disability who meet at ARC Yinnar and create a body of work which is full of colour and life. "Sixteen artists and their tutors explore paint, clay, sculpture, printmaking and drawing. Life stories and experiences combined with inspiration from the wider art world come together to develop styles and recurring themes ranging from exuberant colour explosion to intricate visual documentation. "The joy of seeing their work gaining respect and regard from other artists and the wider community is of great value and empowering for the artists. Their works are sold through galleries and exhibitions to people who appreciate the wonderful gift of life’s interpretation expressed through the love of art," Ms Hurrell said. The Mainstreet Artwork exhibition runs from Monday 1 December and continues until 30 January 2010 during normal opening hours at the Box Office, Mondays to Fridays 10am to 5pm.
