The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has written to the leaders of both major political parties to seek a commitment to ensure that the Bastion Point boat ramp at Mallacoota would be funded and constructed without delay, subject to the completion of the Environmental Effects Statement (EES).

"I restate my ongoing commitment to the construction of a serviceable and usable ocean boat launching facility and related vehicle parking," Mr Ingram said.

"Following the completion of the EES and given the community support shown, the government must go ahead to construct the ramp at Bastion Point.

"The Bastion Point boat ramp is acknowledged by all relevant agencies as an important regional facility for tourism, recreational and commercial fishing, fisheries and park management, and marine safety.

"Over the past seven years, I have been working with local government, government agencies, the Mallacoota Ocean Access Committee and the local community to work through the process to ensure that the ramp is constructed.

"Whilst the process has been difficult and prolonged, I thank members of the community for their ongoing support and understand their frustration at the delays.

"I have called on both the Labor and Liberal parties to support the proposal, and make a commitment to build the ramp in the next 12 months.

"On the completion of the EES, the government in power must fund and build the ramp, and this should be done without delay," Mr Ingram concluded.
