Feasibility Study For Morwell To Traralgon Shared Pathway

Latrobe City Council is taking the first steps in an exciting new project, investigating the feasibility of developing a shared pathway to link Traralgon and Morwell.

By Latrobe City - 22nd December 2011 - Back to News

The feasibility study will consider all aspects of a shared pathway including route, surfacing, road, creek and gully crossings, creek, community benefit and linkages to other key destinations.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen said that over the coming months Council would be looking for community input to ensure any proposed development would be relevant and useful.

"Council is working with local consultants, CPG Australia, to undertake the feasibility study and community engagement will play a big role in ensuring the feasibility study is well informed and locally relevant," Cr Vermeulen said.

The community can leave direct feedback now by visiting the dedicated website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au and following the Traralgon Shared Pathway Study link. There is also an opportunity to complete a survey at the same website or by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/s/Traralgon-MorwellSharedPathSurvey.

"The consultants and council officers will undertake detailed site and route analysis over December and January, and this is just a start to the local community engagement. There will be further workshops and presentations to take place after the Christmas holiday break.

"We are keen to use as many different ways to engage with the community to ensure we receive the most informed and relevant feedback during the period of the feasibility study," Cr Vermeulen said.

"Local residents can provide us with a wealth of local knowledge so we look forward to receiving feedback over the duration of the feasibility study.

We know that shared pathways are popular with families as well as recreational and commuting cyclists as they usually remain off-road, offering a safer and more pleasant riding experience.

"This is an exciting project for Council. We look forward to considering the options available to develop this proposed pathway further. The shared pathway is a complex undertaking given that we need to get a good understanding of the most likely practical route, costs, potential issues as well as articulating the benefits that such an asset will bring," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
