Buchan Community Mini-Portal LaunchedThe Buchan Community is now on-line using the Gippsland.com mini-portal concept. By Gippsland.com - 30th August 2004 - Back to News A representative group from the Buchan community including the Neighbourhood House, the Business and Tourism Association and the local "Living History" co-ordinator helped to celebrate the launch of www.buchan.gippsland.com mini-portal on Friday 27th August.
Many good ideas flowed from the group and a number of the local events, including the annual Gelantipy Ball were added to the events calendar. A couple of the local businesses made the most of the free "Advertorials & Special Offers" news category, adding their offers for visitors to Gippsland.com to see and make the most of.
So, what is a mini-portal? A mini-portal is effectively a website that promotes specific industry sectors or locations, e.g. aviation.gippsland.com, ecoindustry.gippsland.com, safety.gippsland.com, Boolarra.gippsland.com ~ and now Buchan.gippsland.com.
These websites promote an area of specific interest but also enjoy the operational efficiencies of accessing information (such as the business directory) from the databases within Gippsland.com. They can also make the most of the 20,000 people who use Gippsland.com each month!
The good news is that Gippsland.com is currently working with a number of community groups to get a web presence for little or no cost to the group. A five-page template can be created for free if a group of ten businesses in the community can get together and list with Gippsland.com (for under $100 per business)
We see the mini-portal concept as being a win/win/win for the community, local businesses and the broader Gippsland community.
