More fires in Gippsland after lightning strikes

Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) fire crews are now working on another four fires in the region. These fires are all currently small, at between 0.1 and two hectares.

There is a fire east of the Old Omeo Road, 10 kilometres north of Nowa Nowa and at Mooresford Road, 22 kilometres north of Orbost, a firebomber has been deployed to assist operations.

Another fire has started at Mississippi Creek, seven kilometres north west of Lakes Entrance and more recently, one on Scrubby Island, 16 kilometres south east of Yarram.

Three reconnaissance aircraft have been used to locate the fires and ensure a speedy response by ground crews.

More than 50 DSE personnel are currently working on these fires with the support of four bulldozers and 10 tankers and slip-on units.
