in the water industry.

The apprentices are being offered short-term placements with East Gippsland Water to gain on-the-job experience and learn more about the good working practices followed by the water Corporation. This further practical training will prove invaluable throughout their plumbing careers.

Nineteen year old Brayden Kyle from Bairnsdale is the first apprentice to embark on the placement opportunity. He is spending three months working with East Gippsland Water’s Operations and Maintenance team.

Brayden said: "I’m about six weeks into my placement and the experience is great. I already know a lot more about the workings of sewerage and water systems than I did before, the sort of issues that crop up and the best way to carry out repairs."

Said East Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Les Mathieson: "Everyone comes out a winner with this very worthwhile initiative. It provides excellent hands-on experience for the apprentices and enables us to promote sound practices which will assist and benefit them throughout the course of their working lives."

AGA’s field officer for East Gippsland, Michael Taylor, added: "AGA works with industry to create employment opportunities that help young people build great trade careers. With continual mentoring and employment guaranteed for the duration of their apprenticeship, AGA’s 1200 plus apprentices enjoy a completion rate far exceeding the national average.

"We are delighted to be working with East Gippsland Water on this latest initiative and applaud their commitment and contribution to improving training opportunities for apprentices across East Gippsland.

"As an adjunct to their existing training this opportunity will give our future plumbers a greater understanding and appreciation of the water industry, external to their usual works.

Our aim is to help apprentices and employers build better futures for themselves."
