Council Seeking Increased Volunteer NumbersLatrobe City Council is seeking volunteers to assist in the delivery of a number of programs for the community, especially in the areas of aged and community care in Traralgon. By Latrobe City Council - 22nd February 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, councillor Tony Zimora said that there was a concern that some services may be affected unless volunteer numbers are boosted soon.
"These services are driven by volunteers in the community who help ensure vital aged care services are provided. Unfortunately, at the moment, these services are struggling to find enough people to volunteer and it’s putting a lot of pressure on our programs and the small number of very dedicated volunteers who already give up their time regularly," Cr Zimora explained.
"We would encourage any residents who can spare just a few hours a week or even a month to join one of our many volunteer programs.
Latrobe’s social support coordinator, Alison Haber said that volunteering was a vital way of helping to make a difference to the community.
"It’s not difficult be a volunteer and you can have a lot of fun. You only need to be able to spare as little as two hours – once a week, fortnight or month. We run training sessions for some of our programs and our support staff is on hand to offer assistance to the volunteers.
"Local businesses and schools can also contribute and our volunteer programs are very flexible, accommodating the individual needs of the volunteer. It’s a very rewarding experience for those who take on the challenge," Ms Haber explained.
