Peter Hall To Spend Day At Loy Yang

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province PETER HALL will spend this Thursday working with the Loy Yang Power Company as part of an innovative MPs in Business program.

By Peter Hall - 7th September 2004 - Back to News

The program has been organised by VECCI and is a unique opportunity for Members of Parliament and business operators to exchange ideas and discuss issues and challenges facing the business community.

Mr Hall's visit to Loy Yang Power will include a tour of the mine, inspecting and operating the dredger, a power station tour as well as briefings from staff and management on a range of issues.

Mr Hall will welcome learning about the challenges that Loy Yang Power has as Australia’s largest producing coal mine as well as appreciating the conditions of working in an open cut environment.

Mr Hall said he was particularly pleased to be able to have the opportunity to learn more about the technical aspects of Victoria’s largest power station, and to understand the nature of business operations, and the current and emerging greenhouse policy.

He said the event was a great opportunity for MPs to improve their

awareness of what businesses do, what their goals are, the challenges that lie ahead and how they interact with government.

"It is vitally important that Members of Parliament and the business

community work together to build the business capacity of the state and this program is a wonderful example of that," Mr Hall said.

Businesses from traditional industries as well as emerging, high-growth sectors will participate in the program.

* Media are welcome to attend Loy Yang Power at 1.15pm Thursday September 9 for interviews, vision and photographs.
