Boost for local exporters and potential exporters

Latrobe City and Regional Development Victoria (RDV) are joining forces to support the growth of local small and medium-sized businesses, by hosting a subsidised Business Development: Export Marketing program in September.

By Latrobe City Council - 31st August 2006 - Back to News

A free information session will be held on Tuesday 5 September at Latrobe City’s service centre in Traralgon for people wanting more information about the program and its success with other businesses.

Latrobe City’s senior economic development officer, Leo Billington said that the program would be conducted by Business Development Network (BDN), which has run similar programs throughout Victoria for the past nine years.

"Many businesses that have participated in the program are experiencing significant increases in turnover and profitability, and have greater confidence about their future.

"The BDN Export (Marketing) Program is designed for small to medium businesses who are either looking to export their products or services to overseas markets or are currently exporting but are looking to expand and develop products and markets," Mr Billington explained.

"The program is designed to help business people improve the success of their business by developing a specific marketing strategy and plan focused on taking advantage of available export markets," Mr Billington added.

Mr Billington said that small business was a vital part of the local economy, providing 60 per cent of the employment in Victoria, and is crucial to facilitate the growth of this sector.

"Problems often arise because many small business owners are too busy with the day-to-day running of the company to consider overseas markets or develop marketing strategies that can deliver profitable and sustainable growth," Mr Billington explained.

"However, by attending the BDN Program two-day workshop followed by practical one on one coaching sessions with a consultant, participants will be able to complete a marketing plan specifically tailored for their business. The cost of such a plan can often run into many thousands of dollars but with the support of RDV and Latrobe City, the cost for businesses to participate in the program is only $550.00 (including GST)," Mr. Billington says.

The free information session will be held on Tuesday 5 September in the Function Room, Latrobe City offices, Kay Street Traralgon commencing at 6pm.

The program will commence on Tuesday 19 September, and the subsequent individual planning sessions with each participating business will also be scheduled through September.
