Ingram seeks clarification on changes to special educational needs

Independent Member for Gippsland East Craig Ingram is seeking clarification from the Education Minister, on the government’s response to the Review of Services for Students with Special Educational Needs and proposed changes to disabilities programs.

"After meeting with parents and teachers from my electorate I have sought clarification from the Minister on how the changes will be phased in and if existing services will be impacted, particularly those services currently being delivered to students assessed at levels one and two," Mr Ingram said.

"Another question I have asked is how the changes will impact those schools already delivering programs of in-school or private speech pathologists for students with language disorders.

"I have asked the Minister to outline how the improvements in professional development for staff will be delivered to rural areas.

"There is an acknowledgement that there are improvements to be made in some areas, but we are fortunate that schools in my electorate are recognised for delivering good quality, special needs support and education," Mr Ingram concluded.
