Latrobe City Council’s chief executive officer, Gary Van Driel, said that despite some restrictions through the period, it would be business as usual for the delivery of Council services.

"During this time some restrictions are placed on Council’s decision-making abilities and on our capacity to promote certain projects, events and initiatives. The purpose of caretaker mode is to ensure that no decisions are made that will unreasonably bind a future Council, and that public and staff resources are not used improperly for election campaigning or similar activities.

"However, Latrobe City Council will continue to provide operational services to the community. Effectively, it’s business as usual for preschools, bin collection, meals on wheels, libraries and the diverse range of services we offer," Mr Van Driel said.

Latrobe City voters will participate in a postal election. Ballot packs will be posted to all enrolled voters between Tuesday 4 October and Thursday 6 October 2016.
