The 2017 Community Grants Program is now open and to help community groups prepare online applications, Latrobe City Council is holding a series of information sessions.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said that grants were available to local not-for- profit groups or individuals for projects to be undertaken in the coming financial year.

"Grants are available across three categories for group applications: minor capital works (up to $5000), community development (up to $2000) and community events (up to $2000) and, for individuals we’re offering grants to encourage biodiversity works to be complete on private rural land (up to $1500 per property).

"Each year we award funds to groups to help build storage sheds or make renovations to an existing building, support the establishment of new community development programs, or even to hire a venue for an annual event. There are many ways in which a grant can be used for the betterment of our community.

"The grants program demonstrates a significant contribution from Council to community projects and is a way for us to support grassroots community activities. We want people to think of new and innovative ideas for projects that they would like to deliver for the community they support," Cr O’Callaghan said.

Cr O’Callaghan added that the community could attend information sessions organised to get the grant application process underway.

"There are two types of sessions available. The first are group information sessions aimed at providing a general overview of the grants program. The second sessions are individual meetings, aimed at those who may need a hand to complete a grant application or would like to discuss their proposal. If you can’t make it to one of the venues on the dates of these individual sessions you can book a one-to- one meeting with the Grants Officer to run through your application at a time that suits you.

"If you belong to a community group or organisation within Latrobe City and you have a project that needs funding, then this program may be a way for you to receive help and make a start on that project," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.

The closing date for receiving applications is 4pm Friday 25 August 2017.
