Heyfield Ambulance Petition Demonstrates Community Support

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, today accepted a petition and submission from Heyfield and district residents

By Craig Ingram - 24th November 2009 - Back to News

Calling for improvements to the ambulance service and paramedics to support the volunteer ambulance community offices (ACOs).

A large number of Heyfield residents attended the presentation, with over 1700 signatures on the petition which calls for permanent paramedics and upgraded facilities to house them.

"The large numbers of signatures on the petition and the letters of support from local business clearly demonstrate the high level of community support for the provision of paramedics to back up the ACO volunteer community officers and the need for improved facilities at Heyfield," Mr Ingram said.

"The submission, which I will present to the Minister for Health, clearly articulates the case for paramedics at Heyfield based on the increasing high workloads on the ACO volunteers.

"This is coupled with the large coverage area and other challenges that come with servicing remote parts of the district.

"The provision of paramedics will further enhance the current service and provide a higher level of emergency response.

"I have requested the opportunity for a local delegation to meet with the Minister for Health to discuss the community’s concerns and desire for improved ambulance services in the town.

"The petition will be presented to Parliament next week.

"I congratulate the ambulance auxiliary, local business and the community for the important efforts that they have put into the campaign and will take their case to the government, strongly recommending their needs are met," Mr Ingram concluded.
