Destination Gippsland won the Tourism Marketing category and was recognised for the results achieved by their in-depth marketing campaign.

Traralgon luxury boutique accommodation Montfort Manor represented Victoria in the Hosted Accommodation category, but just missed out on the award, which went to South Australian Seppeltsfield Vineyard Cottage.

Presented by the National Tourism Alliance (NTA) and Tourism Council Western Australia (TCWA) and sponsored by Qantas Airways, Tourism Australia and Tourism Western Australia, the 26th Australian Tourism Awards are the industry’s biggest and most prestigious event of the year.

Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe said both a win, and a finalist place was significant for the Gippsland region.

"It was terrific to see Gippsland represented twice in the awards, and receive recognition for a job well done.

"David and Mel Wilson do a fantastic job at Montfort Manor, and being named as a finalist is a true testament to the hard work and dedication they have shown to their business over the years."

Mr Northe said Destination Gippsland plays an important role in marketing Gippsland as a destination of choice, and ensuring tourists understand what wonderful attractions and beauty our region has.

"We have so much to offer in this part of Victoria, and Destination Gippsland has been recognised for their role in promoting the Gippsland region. I commend all involved for their dedication and hard work, which I’m sure has contributed to their success at these awards."

Mr Northe said the recognition of both Destination Gippsland and Montfort Manor is not only a great achievement for the recipients, but will hopefully also inspire other locals to put their hand up and get noticed.

"Just because we live in a regional area doesn’t mean we don’t have a lot to offer. I highly encourage all local businesses and tourism operators to nominate themselves for awards.

"Awards such as the Gippsland Business Awards or the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association’s People’s Choice Awards are a great way to put your business name out there, and possibly receive recognition from the public for the work you do.

"Once again I congratulate both Destination Gippsland and Montfort Manor on their achievements, and I look forward to hearing more success stories from our region."
