Tom McIntosh welcomes $1M sporting facility boost for Korumburra Tennis Club from Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund

The Allan Labor government is investing $24 million in 41 regional sports projects, boosting participation, accessibility, and jobs - highlighted by $1 million for Korumburra Tennis Club's new inclusive pavilion.

Dozens of regional sport clubs across Victoria will score better facilities - boosting participation, local communities and jobs, thanks to the Allan Labor government. Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced 41 new projects will share in almost $24 million from Round 2 of the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund (RCSIF), investing in women and girls' change rooms, sports courts and fields and more.

The fund supports sporting projects, including $1M for Korumburra Tennis Club's accessible new pavilion and upgraded court lighting, delivering strong outcomes for regional sport in Victoria

Transforming regional sport

The Fund is a game-changer for regional Victoria, with 67 infrastructure projects and 8 participation initiatives now supported, as part of the more than $2.4 billion invested by the Labor government in community sport infrastructure.

A project to construct a new sports pavilion at Korumburra Tennis Club will receive $1,000,000 through this round. The project will include 2 changerooms with amenities, one disability change space, accessible toilet, kitchen, storage, and an accessible car park.

The Project will also install 350 lux LED lighting for 2 courts and 4 hot-shot courts. The Community Sports Infrastructure 2024 Outcomes Statement highlights the positive impacts of projects through initiatives like the RCSIF.

Participation boost delivered

In the past two years alone more than 330 community sport projects have increased participation by almost 43 per cent or more than 70,200 new participants, including a 19 per cent increase in junior girls playing sport.

That's more people of all ages and abilities swimming, playing soccer, netball, volleyball, skateboarding, cycling and more at a range of facilities from skate parks to netball courts, close to home. Local economies are also winners, with more than 1,170 direct full-time jobs supported in the delivery of more than $538 million worth of community sport and active recreation infrastructure across Victoria.

The Victorian Budget 2025/26 is investing $20 million to continue providing new and improved community sports infrastructure through initiatives like the statewide Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, which will be open for applications in the coming months. Game changing investment

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said, "These projects will be a game changer for regional communities, giving them modern facilities they can be proud of."

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "This will be a huge boost for Korumburra tennis club, providing new world class accessible facilities that the community deserve and increasing participation in the game of tennis along with all the associated benefits."

Korumburra Tennis Club Secretary Kylie Van Den Broek said, "This grant is nothing short of a game changer for our club and our local community. The funding will enable the redevelopment of our ageing tennis facilities - allowing us to provide a modern, inclusive and accessible space for people of all ages and abilities.

Inclusive tennis future

Currently, the club faces physical limitations that restrict participation, particularly for those with mobility challenges or requiring accessible pathways and infrastructure. This redevelopment will allow us to finally cater for all members of the community - from children picking up a racquet for the first time, to our valued senior members who have been long-standing supporters of our club, as well as those with a disability or limited mobility who have previously found access challenging.

This investment secures the long-term future of the Korumburra Tennis Club, ensuring that tennis remains a vibrant, accessible, and inclusive sporting option in South Gippsland. Tennis is one of those rare sports that truly caters to everyone - children, adults, families, and seniors alike - and this funding gives us the chance to fully embrace and serve that diversity.
