The upgrades include:

- Strengthening the existing pavement
- Applying and compacting a 150mm layer of fine crushed rock
- Sealing of the road surface
- Line marking
- Guidepost and signage installation
Mr Chester said, "This is an important project for locals and the visitor economy and it's good to see the road crews back in action."
Reduced maintenance cost
Mr Chester said,"Upgrading the road will reduce the maintenance costs, and help to build the tourism industry by encouraging more people to use this important link to the Snowy River high country.
"Bonang Road is a popular route for motorcycle riders who will appreciate the safer conditions. It's also part of a critical route in emergency situations, such as during the devastating 2019-20 bushfires and the sealed road will create a safer, stronger, and more durable route for all road users including emergency services in these situations." Mr Chester concluded.
