on May 2nd and events begin with the Energy Innovation Festival in Wonthaggi on March 24th and 25th.

Mr Glenn Patterson, Chief Executive Officer of Baw Baw Shire Council and Chairperson of the Gippsland Innovation Festival, said: ‘Innovation Gippsland recognises that innovation occurs across the region throughout the year. It’s a great opportunity for local organisations and businesses to showcase innovation. We encourage them to contact festival organisers as soon as possible.’

‘The theme of the festival is ‘Making Good Ideas Happen’, Mr Patterson continued. ‘Innovation Gippsland promotes Gippsland’s success stories – the businesses and community groups who apply new ideas to their work and local area – and the positive impacts they have on our region.’

Mr Patterson said: ‘Innovation Gippsland builds on growing community confidence in the success of innovators in the region. It shows the benefits of business, community and government working together across Gippsland.

‘The Young Women’s Leadership Mentoring Program, a pilot program which will be run across the region by Baw Baw Shire, will be launched during Innovation Gippsland’s peak in May. This program builds on the success of previous year’s events such as "Inspiring Young Women’, where successful businesswomen, community leaders and young women were brought together to discuss potential careers and future directions.

Innovation Gippsland is on track to retain its status as the largest regional innovation festival in Australia. It is part of the nation-wide Australian Innovation Festival, enabling organisers to generate national and local media exposure for participants. Additional events in 2007 show that innovation is not restricted to just a few weeks of the year.

‘Business, Community and Local Government all have roles in promoting, leading and stimulating innovation across all sectors.' said Mr Patterson. 'Innovation Gippsland challenges our perceptionsof innovation and promotes a regional culture of embracing excellence.'

He concluded: ‘We want to ensure that Gippsland continues to be a key participant in the Australian Innovation Festival, and that the benefits of innovation are evident through Innovation Gippsland. We want to know about which would benefit from linking with the program and welcome expressions of interest from across Gippsland.
