Council to conduct review of town structure plans

Latrobe City Council is conducting a review of the structure plans for Churchill, Moe, Morwell and Traralgon.

By Latrobe City Council - 16th August 2006 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, councillor Lisa Price said that the structure plans formed part of the Latrobe Planning Scheme.

"The plans set out the layout of the towns and where current and future growth will be directed.

"This review aims to ensure that the towns grow in a coordinated manner and enable land to be available for a range of uses," Cr Price explained.

Latrobe’s strategic planning manager, Alison Taylor, said that as part of the review process, the community would be consulted.

"We want to ensure that the community’s needs and aspirations for the towns are incorporated into the plan. The consultation also aims to establish in which areas the community believes improvements could be made in order to make towns more functional and appealing to live and work in," Ms Taylor said.

"Over the coming months, there will be opportunity for community input as the public consultation strategies are employed. Council and its consultants will run business workshops, provide displays in community settings and run a series of stakeholder workshops in each town," Ms Taylor added. "The Business Workshops will take place on 23 and 24 August in each town."

Cr Price said that it was important for members of the public to have their say.

"Over the consultation period, we hope that the community at large will provide feedback on the future development of the four towns. It is vital that Council puts plans into place that the public are happy with," Cr Price concluded.
