"This is excellent news," said Cr Beth Ripper, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.

"Council has lobbied very hard for improvements to this section of the Princes Highway for many years so we are very pleased with this announcement and the promise of more to come."

"The support of East Gippsland Shire Council and Gippsland Local Government Network (GLGN) on this issue has been invaluable"

"We also acknowledge the efforts of the community, particularly the Committee for Wellington to also lobby the government," said Cr Ripper

"The upgrading of that section of road will improve safety and reinforces the importance of this area to live, work and invest."

"This section of road forms a major artery for transport to and from our region. We are a key resource, agriculture area and tourist destination. Therefore good roads are vital to the economic growth and prosperity the region," said Cr Ripper.

"This is something our residents and those who visit our shire have been waiting for," said Cr Ripper.
