Construction Of Bemm River Sewerage Scheme Commences

East Gippsland Water's construction of a much-needed reticulated sewerage system for Bemm River gets underway this week.

By Gippsland Water - 8th February 2012 - Back to News

Construction of the first stage of the project, the reticulation sewers and pump stations, is being conducted by contractors, JCR Civil P/L.

Delivery of the whole project, which also includes a wastewater treatment plant, is being coordinated on East Gippsland Water's behalf by engineering consultants AECOM, with all the work due to be completed by the end of this year.

Said East Gippsland Water's Managing Director, Les Mathieson: "The provision of a community-wide reticulated sewerage scheme is the only sustainable solution to improving wastewater management at Bemm River. It has been identified as a priority by East Gippsland Shire Council in its Domestic Wastewater Management Plan, which states that current wastewater management in the township is unsustainable and is polluting the surrounding natural environment.

"We greatly appreciate property owners' cooperation with this initiative and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by the construction works. Every effort will be made to keep this inconvenience to a minimum."
