By Russell North - 19th November 2014 - Back to News

Member for Morwell, Russell Northe said the funding was evidence of the Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to regional Victoria and to developing tourism.

The Boolarra Folk Festival will be held on Saturday 28 February 2015 at the Railway and Centenary Parks in Boolarra.

Mr Northe said these events have a significant impact on the local economy by attracting visitors from across Victoria to the region.

"The Boolarra Folk Festival is a free annual community event held in Boolarra bringing together live music, art, craft and food," Mr Northe said.

"The Boolarra Folk Festival has been a great success for the Boolarra community since beginning in 2003 and I’m pleased that the Victorian Coalition Government has been able to further boost the capacity of this next year’s event.

"The concept was initiated and continues to be run by grassroots volunteers and its continued success is a testament to their hard work.

"Organisers believe in bringing people together through music and art. Everybody who attends the festival can participate in music making first hand as well as relaxing to the performances of a range of musicians and artists."

Mr Northe said for the fourth time in five years the Boolarra Folk Festival won the Best Event at the Latrobe City 2014 People’s Choice Awards.

"Previously the Victorian Coalition Government has provided $45,000 to Destination Gippsland for the promotion of the Boolarra Folk Festival," Mr Northe said.

Tourism Minister Louise Asher said the funding was provided through the Government’s Country Victoria Events Program. The funding assists with tourism marketing, and event delivery and development.
