Ingram calls for major towns to be reticulated

Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has called in Parliament for the natural gas reticulation to be extended to other parts of East Gippsland.

By Craig Ingram - 5th March 2004 - Back to News

"Treasurer, John Brumby, recently announced that Bairnsdale has been the first town fast-tracked for natural gas reticulation", Mr Ingram said.

"This was an extremely welcome and long-awaited announcement.

"It will ensure that businesses and residents in Bairnsdale will be able to compete more efficiently with their metro counterparts.

"In Parliament I expressed the importance of extending natural gas to other towns in Gippsland East, including Orbost, Paynesville, Lakes Entrance, Stratford and Heyfield and towns that were initially signed up on the eastern gas pipeline under the initial agreements that were made.

"Many residents and business across East Gippsland and Wellington shires have been at an incredible disadvantage due to our region not having access to the gas resource from our back yard in Bass Strait.

"My constituents have continually expressed their desire to see natural gas extended right along the eastern gas pipeline and I will continue the push for this to occur," Mr Ingram concluded.
