Changes To Speed ZonesVicRoads is proposing speed limit reductions on Phillip Island, in response to the findings of a VicRoads’ 2005 Phillip Island Road Management Study, the Bass Coast Shire Community Plan 2003 and the Phillip Island and San Remo Design Framework. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 14th March 2006 - Back to News VicRoads, Bass Coast Shire Council and Victoria Police have been involved in the discussions regarding proposed speed limit reductions.
In considering proposed speed limits any recent changes to the level of abutting development was considered, together with the area’s road crash history. There was also a desire to simplify driving by reducing the number of speed limit changes.
The proposed changes are:
· Section 1, Phillip Island Road from Boys Home Road to West of Woolamai Beach Road is proposed to be reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h.
· Section 2, Phillip Island Road from Rhyll-Newhaven Road to North-West of Sunset Strip is proposed to be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.
· Section 3, Phillip Island Road from East of Ventnor Beach Road to South of Ventnor Road is proposed to be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.
· Section 4, Settlement Road, from East of Dunsmore Road to East of Sanders road is proposed to be reduced from 70 km/h to 60 km/h.
· Section 5, Ventnor Road, between Justice Road and Grossard Point Road this section is proposed to be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.
Comments are required by 12 May 2006 and may be directed to the relevant contact listed below. All comments will be considered jointly by Bass Coast Shire Council, Victoria Police and VicRoads. Speed limit changes will be implemented in June 2006. Please see attached map, illustrating proposed speed limit reductions.
