New – and familiar – faces for Westernport Water board

The State Government has appointed three new directors to the board of Westernport Water and retained the two directors seeking re-appointment.

By Susan Webster - 10th October 2007 - Back to News

The new appointments include two Phillip Island landowners and a city-based lawyer.

Managing Director David Mawer said: "One of the new directors, Tony Leonard, is a long-time resident of Cowes and well-experienced in the insurance industry.

"Another of the directors, Trevor Nink, is widely respected in the property management and construction industries and owns a holiday house at Ventnor.

"These two appointments accurately reflect the demographic mix of the region’s population," Mr Mawer said. "And we particularly welcome the appointment of Jane Bell of Toorak. We had especially hoped for the inclusion of a director with extensive legal experience – something that Ms Bell brings to our board."

Appointments to the board are made by the Minister for Water, Mr Tim Holding and are made independently of the water corporation.

Mr Holding’s announcement, made late last week, also reinstates Leah Young and Chris Pattas, two directors on the previous board whose three year terms had expired.

Westernport Water Chair Pamela Cameron said: "We are delighted to retain the skills of our two fellow-directors. The knowledge that they have brought to the board has been useful and the continuity of their service will be extremely valuable.

"And I welcome the new appointments to our board – Mr Leonard and Mr Nink increase the local ‘footprint’ in its composition and Ms Bell’s experience gives us a sharp legal edge.

"It adds new energy to an organisation facing a range of exciting new prospects following the successful water augmentation projects and continuing water conservation support from the community.

"I welcome them all most warmly and know their appointment will be for the ongoing benefit of our customers."
