Council Facilities Begin a Considered Reopening

Some Council facilities to reopen from 2 June.

By Portal Admin - 2nd June 2020 - Back to News

In response to the Victorian State Government's announcement on Sunday regarding the further easing of lockdown restrictions, some Council facilities will reopen from 2 June.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the community would still have to follow social distancing and hygiene requirements.

"From this Tuesday, we are reopening the customer service centre at Council HQ in Morwell, the libraries in Moe, Morwell and Traralgon, the Latrobe Regional Gallery, the Visitor Information Centre and the swimming pools at Latrobe Leisure Centres in Churchill, Moe Newborough and Morwell. There are limits to the numbers of patrons at all these venues - 20 people maximum and bookings may be required," Cr Clancey said.

"Although these facilities are open they won't be operating in their normal, pre-COVID way for quite some time. We have to be mindful of staff's health and safety and that of the community. There will be occasions where the centres have to close to manage cleaning needs and there may be times when visitors have to queue outside or leave if the buildings are at their maximum quota.

"We're looking forward to welcoming you back into our centres and our message is that if we all practise good hygiene, physical distancing and common sense, we can stay safe together."

Patrons to Council venues will notice a number of changes which includes the installation of sneeze guards at customer counter areas, signage and floor stickers to both protect the community and staff, as well as serve as visual reminders to keep our distance and act appropriately.

Cr Clancey said he understood there were many excited children and parents following the reopening of playgrounds on Monday, but reminded people that restrictions still applied.

"Until Monday no more than 10 people can be at the same playground, from Monday 1 June this will increase to 20. We understand that this is a small number but we must continue to adhere to the restrictions and do our bit to keep one another safe. If you arrive and the playground is busy, please come back later or find another playground to use. Conversely, if you have played at the park for a while and others come, please be courteous and call it day."
