Recreation Reserve Public Toilets UpgradesToilet facilities within Council’s recreation reserves will be more accessible, or upgraded, as part of Council’s Public Toilet Plan. By Latrobe City - 17th September 2010 - Back to News Latrobe City Council acting manager infrastructure operations, Jody O’Kane, said the Public Toilet Plan identifies a number of outdated or isolated facilities, particularly at sports grounds and reserves.
"These old facilities will be upgraded or replaced when pavilion improvement works are undertaken at the reserves. Facility upgrades have been completed on pavilions at the Crinigan Road South Reserve, Morwell and Northern Reserve, Newborough; and are underway at Ted Summerton Reserve, Moe; Northern Reserve, Morwell. Upgrades are also planned for Monash Reserve, Newborough and the Yinnar Recreation Reserve, with these projects to be delivered in the 2010/11 financial year.
"It is important to note that any public toilet facility located within a reserve and earmarked for demolition within the Public Toilet Plan, will not proceed until pavilions at these reserves have been upgraded to include new public toilet facilities.
"Some responses to the community consultation process, undertaken as part of Council’s revised Public Toilet Plan, expressed concern that removal of the public toilets will leave some reserves without appropriate public toilet facilities. This is not the case," Mr O’Kane said.
"Permanent service points have also been introduced at these sites to allow for easy installation of temporary toilets during major events and gatherings. Latrobe City Council owns two high quality temporary toilet facilities that are made available when larger than normal crowds are expected.
"In addition to Council funded projects, facility upgrades are subject to funding assistance from State and Federal government and will be activated over several years. In the meantime, existing toilets will be maintained under normal council guidelines. The full list of future replacements is identified in the Public Toilet Plan," Mr O’Kane concluded.
