Web Tool Helps Lv Residents Choose Water Tanks Wisely Residents and businesses in the Latrobe Valley now have access to a free online tool, the Tankulator, which will help take the hard work out of choosing a rain water tank, By Russell Northe - 24th November 2011 - Back to News Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe announced today.
"There are numerous benefits of water conservation in our homes or businesses, and it is vitally important that you get the right tank for your purposes," Mr Northe said.
Developed by the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) with support from the Victorian Government’s Sustainability Fund and the City of Whitehorse, the Tankulator delivers information based upon postcode and uses the latest data from the Bureau of Meteorology including location-specific weather data and a quick online survey to calculate a site’s rain water harvesting potential and recommend the best options.
The Tankulator can produce acute evaluations customised to the user by measuring variables such as location, roof type, absorption, evaporation and overflow etc.
This allows residents to access information and tools needed to make informed decisions about choosing a rainwater tank that best suits their needs for the long-term, making it truly sustainable.
ATA Chief Executive Officer Ian Porter said while there had been rapid growth in the number of water tanks in recent years, there were still thousands of homes without them. "The Tankulator gives people an in-depth understanding of how much water they will harvest and the choices they need to make to get the most out of their tanks," Mr Porter said.
In addition the Victorian Government’s Living Victoria Water rebates can assist with the purchase and installation of rainwater tanks connected to the toilet and or laundry of a home. Rebates for tanks are up to $1,000. More information can be found at www.water.vic.gov.au
