Gippsland Incident Control Centre Update

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Incident Control Centre at Maffra has been assisting landholders with the assessment of the impact of recent heavy rains, storms and flooding that occurred across the region.

Staff at the centre have been asking landholders about their immediate needs and requesting information about damage on farms including stock losses, fences down, electricity faults, damage to homes and other agricultural-related impacts from the floods.

Initial reports of stock losses are:

Number of sheep lost 114

Number of beef cattle lost 632

Number of dairy cattle lost 135

Number of poultry lost 31

To date 921 tonnes of hay have been lost as have 2,510 tonnes of grain.

Additional hubs have been established at Bairnsdale, Ellinbank, Leongatha and Traralgon where staff will be contacting landholders to make early assessment of flood impacts.

Affected Gippsland landholders seeking assistance can contact the Maffra DPI Incident Control Centre on

1800 729 834 between 8am and 8pm.
