Have You Been To The New Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre Yet?Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting the community to an Open Day at the Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre on 17 July 2008. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 8th July 2008 - Back to News The Centre was refurbished last year and reopened for business on 26 December 2007. The improved facility was designed to deal with the large visitor numbers experienced through the busy summer holiday season. The Centre handled 32,810 visitors between 26 December 2007 and 31 January 2008, the highest number of visitors on record for this period.
Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis, is very proud of the project, which was jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments and Bass Coast Shire Council.
"The new centre has a front deck where people can enjoy a snack or a drink," said Mr Francis.
"We now have more floor space for displays, new bathroom facilities and a meeting room.
"The meeting room has been designed as a multi purpose space," explained Mr Francis.
"It can be used by the Centre’s staff and volunteers and it can also be booked by community groups for meetings both during and outside business hours."
Mr Francis said the feedback so far on the Centre had been very good.
"We’ve had so many friends, family, and business contacts say to us ‘The Centre looks great, we really should come and check it out’, that we decided to hold an Open Day," said Mr Francis.
"Local residents, tourism and business operators and interested members of the public are all welcome to come in and see the new facilities.
'We are all very proud of the refurbished Centre, with its vastly improved facilities for staff and customers."
