New Arts Centre Would Be An Invaluable Local Asset: Northe

The Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has reiterated calls for community input into a feasibility study for a Latrobe Performing Arts and Convention Centre (PACC).

Mr Northe formed a PACC working party in 2007 after highlighting his support for such a facility in his election campaign. Having identified that a state government grant was available for a feasibility study, the Morwell MP assisted the working party to successfully petition Latrobe City Council to apply for funding and undertake such an investigation.

"The feasibility study will help Council establish the need for and the requirements of a performing arts and convention centre in this electorate," Mr Northe said.

"As a member of the Victorian Parliament’s Rural & Regional Committee I hear and see time and time again, just how invaluable PACC facilities are to the communities they service."

Mr Northe said there would be many economic and social benefits stemming from a new PACC in the Latrobe Valley.

"We have a thriving arts community who require and deserve an appropriate facility in which to perform, grow and engage the wider Latrobe community.

"A state of the art performing arts and conference centre would also attract performers, industry and corporate groups from far and wide.

"It has the potential to be the activity hub of Gippsland," he said.

Mr Northe encouraged locals to have their say on a future performing arts and convention centre by contacting Coomes Consulting Group, who have been appointed to undertake the study:
