Local businesses and communities are reaping the benefits of recent changes to the Gippsland.com site.

During the month of June, Gippsland.com was visited by 19,000 people, received over 490,000 hits, and passed on 456 on‑line enquiries to the 830 businesses listed on the Business Directory.

Debra Smith-Mooney, Project Officer with Gippsland.com said "We’ve seen an increase of 4,000 unique visitors during the month June, which is great news for local business ~ and the really exciting statistic is that over 50% of the online enquiries came from outside the region!"

"Motor wreckers, real estate agents and accommodation providers were the major winners, receiving the highest levels of interest."

"Those businesses who are receiving a lot of visitor interest are using the suite of tools available via their business listing, not just the listing itself. By making frequent updates, they can display special offers and promotions."

"We’re keen to make the most of the increased interest from outside the region by providing linkages between business and communities to which they belong."

Communities and interest groups can benefit from a five-page site that they can edit directly and contribute news stories to their site and the wider Gippsland.com audience.

Businesses benefit from having an on-line presence if they don’t already have one or by channelling the traffic from Gippsland.com to their site.

Gippsland.com was established in 2001 through support received from Multimedia Victoria and the Councils of Baw Baw, Latrobe, Wellington and East Gippsland. Bass Coast and South Gippsland Councils have since joined the supporting group. The portal is managed by GREEN Inc on behalf of the Gippsland community and contains many useful and low-cost features to assist communities and businesses.
