East Gippsland Water joins effort to reopen Tidal River for Easter

By East Gippsland Water - 21st April 2011 - Back to News

Specialist equipment from East Gippsland Water is being set up at Wilsons Promontory as part of a concerted effort to reopen the national park’s popular Tidal River campsite for Easter.

Parks Victoria has been carrying out extensive clean-up work at Tidal River, repairing damage caused by recent floods. It requested a ‘Siltbuster’ water clarifier from East Gippsland Water to filter and clean water from a now silt-laden river nearby, so that there are sufficient high quality supplies available to meet campers’ needs over the Easter weekend.

East Gippsland Water has a total complement of ten water clarifiers, which proved their worth following bush fires along the Mitchell River catchment some four years ago. Then, they were very successfully used to filter and clean the very poor river water, ensuring some 24,000 people continued to receive high quality drinking water supplies.

Said the Corporation’s Managing Director, Les Mathieson: "We had no hesitation about providing assistance for this very worthwhile effort and have a dedicated team carrying out the installation of this specialist equipment. It’s great to see our expertise used in this way, to benefit the wider community."
