By Latrobe City - 27th March 2007 - Back to News

The Young Ambassadors for 2007 are team leader and assistant coordinator, Nicole Brindley; 21 year old animal lover, Nerissa McIntosh; the collector in the team, Patrick McKenzie; all round abstract, creative guy, Brendan Nunn; father and Holden man; Brock Sim and pop art lover, Jacinta Smith

The Young Ambassadors program provides opportunities for young people to develop personal, educational and employment skills and to gain work experience, arts and business skills and career opportunities.

Gallery Director, Jacqui Hemsley said that after a fantastic pilot year in 2006, which saw young people create the identity ARTCORE and select pieces for the exhibition ‘Are We Revolting Enough’ from the permanent collection, the possibilities for the 2007 team are again limitless.

"For these young people, this is an opportunity to walk into an arts job without any previous experience required, with the main aim to actively create an arts event for other young people.

"There are now five young people actively making changes from within the arts team. The Latrobe Regional Gallery values this direct line of communication with the young people of the region. They are learning as much about arts and the Gallery, as the Gallery is about young people, their language, their impressions of art and arts institutions such as ours," Ms Hemsley said.

If you would like to find out more about the Young Ambassadors Program call Ariane or Nicole on 5128 5700.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am – 4pm. Admission is free. For more information, contact the gallery on 5128 5700, fax 5128 5706 or email lrg@latrobe.vic.gov.au.
