Farmers market has a new home

Traralgon’s Kay Street median, opposite the civic precinct, will come alive this Saturday with the opening of the Traralgon Farmers Market.

By Latrobe City Council - 23rd February 2005 - Back to News

Previously known as the Tyers Farmers Market, it will now be sited in Kay Street following 15 successful market days at the Bert Christensen Reserve in Tyers.

Latrobe City Councillor, Lisa Proctor, said that the Traralgon market would be held monthly on the fourth Saturday of every month.

"The market will still be part of the Gippsland circuit of monthly farmers markets which include Pakenham, Koonwarra, Drouin, Sale, Bairnsdale and Phillip Island," Cr Proctor explained.

"Saturday’s market will feature fresh vegetables, bread, local wines, fruit, jams and chutneys. The market allows shoppers to meet the growers and product manufacturers. Producers can promote the virtues of quality food and what it actually means to have an alternative to the ever present fast food diets," Cr Proctor said.

"A Farmers Market brings the customer closer to natural, wholesome foods. Shopping at a farmers market is in itself, a leisurely, stress-free activity and we can catch up with friends whilst enjoying the ambiance of Kay Street’s majestic elm trees," Cr Proctor concluded.

Produce stalls will be open from 8am to about 1pm. All enquiries about the Traralgon Farmers Market should be made to Peter Arnold on 5664 0096.
