San Remo Skaters Score New Skate Park

$650,000 new skate park for San Remo

By Portal Admin - 22nd October 2018 - Back to News

San Remo’s growing skateboard, rollerblade, scooter, parkour and BMX community will soon be able to show off their skills at a new skate park thanks to $650,000 from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Sport John Eren today visited the San Remo Foreshore to announce the funding from the Labor Government’s $180 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Skate parks are an integral part of today’s youth culture and provide a safe place for young people to connect, socialise and stay active.

Skating, parkour and BMX are popular in the area, but participants have struggled to find a safe space to showcase their talents.

Once complete the new skate park will feature a competition standard skate bowl, street skate plaza, smaller bowls, an active play space for parkour, shared pathways and lighting allowing for night skating and competition.

The project is one of over 90 to score a boost from the flagship fund that recently received a $60 million boost from the Victorian Budget 2018/19.

Across Victoria the Labor Government has invested more than $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities, and earlier this year provided almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget to support sport and active recreation at all levels.

Minister Eren thanked project partners Bass Coast Shire Council for their commitment and financial contribution to the project.
